Sponge, Kansas' resident Scarren fan has been asking for a Scarren vid for some time. It's always been a matter of finding the right song, and I just hadn't heard it yet. Well, Happyme suggested that War Pigs might be a good Farscape song. As soon as I saw the lyrics I knew it could probably work with the Scarrens. Happyme, sorry your name didn't make it into the credits.

This is one of the harder vids I've done. First off, War Pigs clocks in at 7:38 which is a very long time for a vid. It's made even more difficult by the fact that there is not a lot of Scarren action vid and nearly 5 minutes of this song is instrumentals. What I did is edit off about the first minute, the last 2:30 or so and somewhere around :30 to :40 from the middle. There are still some instrumental portions, but this made it a much easier song to vid. It's down to about 3:26. PK Gumby has taken to calling it "Skirmish Pigs" or "Misunderstanding Pigs" which I find absolutely hilarious.

Once I had the song edited down I still faced challenges. There is a very distinctive double guitar beat at the end of most verses and I felt that this could not be ignored. It took me quite a while to decide what to do with those. At first I was just going to take scenes from the surrounding clip to match into it, but that looked funny. You really can't do two distinctive scenes to those beats. It just looks wrong. That's where I hit upon the idea of zooming in on a single clip. Sometimes the one right at the end and sometimes not. I think the final effect came out quite nicely.

The only thing I don't like is that his is an older Black Sabbath song and the audio quality off the CD isn't the greatest. Unfortunately when Ozzy did his greatest hits, The Ozzman Cometh , he chose to rewrite the lyrics so that it really wasn't the same song. I may expand out this vid to encompass some of the deleted time depending on what comes out in the mini.

Nicely done. Normally I am not a fan of "heavy metal" or very hard rock, but I grew up with Black Sabbath. And yes, a vid for the Scarrens is needed -- thank you.
