Music by Emiliana Torrini from The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
This is an example of muses gone wild. I was listening to the soundtrack and this song struck me as being very applicable to Crais. The more I thought about it, the more I realized how similar these two are. If you do not know what happens in The Return of the King there are spoilers below. I'll put the rest of the discussion after the lyrics.
The tone of this song is very sorrowful and reflects the relationship Crais and Talyn had with the others.
Where once was light Now darkness falls Where once was love Love is no more
Don't say - goodbye Don't say - I didn't try
These tears we cry Are Falling rain For all the lies You told us The hurt, the blame
And we will weep To be so alone We are lost we can never go home
So in the end I’ll be - what I will be No loyal friend Was ever there for me
Now we say - goodbye We say - you didn't try these tears you cry Have come too late Take back the lies The hurt, the blame
And you will weep When you face the end alone you are lost you can never go home
you are lost you can never go home
Okay here's the similarities I found between Crais and Gollum. Neither one of them was trusted, though they were reluctantly accepted by the 'heroes'. Both of them helped the heroes accomplish their mission. Both had their own reasons for doing what they did. Both ended up 'sacrificing' themselves to accomplish said mission. Tragic heroes both. Just some random musing from and overactive imagination.

I recently found out I could sing and I started with Lord of the Rings music. This is one of the ones that I sing all the time. But I never thought about the fact the Crais and Gollum are mostly the same.

Wow! that was amazing. Beautiful and haunting, you really captured the depth Crais' characture had. The perfect song for both Crais and Gollum. You made Crais' sacrifice at the end even more poignant and sad. Simply breathtaking Garrix, great job.

*shiver* Haunting. A good choice for Crais, Garrix. There's such a darkness, a regret around this song. The last lament of one who lived among evil and died in the good. The line that especially gets to me is the "you are lost, you can never go home." Wow.

One difference between Crais and Gollum: I doubt we'll miss Gollum after ROTK. Crais, though... You just remind me how interesting, how dramatic and how ultimately tragic a figure he is. And Emiliana Torrini has such a haunting voice. A perfect accompaniment to Captain Crais's ultimate sacrifice.
