NOTES FROM THE VIDEO EDITOR:

Foreword:

What this video is all about

When I first worked on this video I knew from the get go what I wanted it to be like. I wanted it to reflect everything I love about this spectacular show. I wanted it to wow fellow fans as well as folks who know little to nothing about Farscape, maybe get them to start watching avidly. I wanted it to be exciting, action packed, funny, endearing, with a touch of drama, romance, even sex.  I wanted it to show case not solely the actors but everything else that made this show fantastic: the the special effects, the make up, the props, the sets, the colors, the cinematography, the sound effects. There was to be explosions, screaming, space battles, land battles. I wondered how this could be best conveyed with great, on-going momentum, and I decided it had to begin with a story first told through song. But the thing is I knew it couldn't be just one song that will tell the story and showcase the world of Farscape. There's a lot of excellent material to choose from, and I picked what was available to me.

In short, if I was asked to explain what's so great about this show and I only had five minutes to do it, I'd show this video. I've done exactly that and it actually helped generate at least a few more viewers in my circle. There you go. That's reward enough for my efforts. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. :)

Afterward: Background/History: A Frantic Rush to Make the video

I had planned to make a Farscape music video for quite some time. Then all of a sudden last year, Creation Entertainment sent an announcement about a video contest. But the deadline was in one week! So I grabbed whatever VHS tapes I can get - with quality ranging from crappy to decent. For an entire week I worked non-stop, only taking a break now and then to eat or use the rest room. I must have invested more or less 60 hours on this unfinished project from brainstorming and material gathering to digital conversion to editing to draft output.

On top of the self-imposed pressure, my computer kept crashing in the middle of editing. A few times I had to start from scratch as I lost hours of work when the drive got stuck (At the time I didn't know that it was the hard drive that was faulty. My newer drives these days work fine.) A couple times I almost gave up, but a good friend of mine encouraged me to pull through, and I did. I'm so glad I listened.

Now the good news is as I was still tweaking I did manage to export 2 drafts, and even exported to VHS to see what it looked like on tape. But as the clock ticked on and the sleep-deprived days and nights crept closer to the deadline, I found myself just desperately wanting to mail SOMETHING, even if unfinished.  On the Saturday before the Monday deadline I FedExed the VHS copy of my video, went home and slept like the dead. :)

About a month later at the convention it was nice to sit and watch the video play on the screen and witness my fellow fans' reactions. I wanted to share this with other people who loved this show more or less as much as I do. Not as many folks saw it as there were still a lot of them coming back from the charity breakfast and missed it. But at least I got to share it even with a handful of people. Most of all it was great to see other people's work, and I felt good to know some of them were around to really appreciate the work that went into making those videos. It turned out to be a showcase of fan-made Farscape music videos rather than a contest as there were no winners declared.

The bad news is, going back, shortly after I saved the 2nd exported draft, my drive died. The video clips went bye bye. But I'm so proud of this video and enjoyed it so much despite the technical difficulties first encountered that I'm reworking it again, this time with better quality video clips on a stable hard drive. I don't know why I waited so long to post this draft online, but here ya go. I will post the latest version when it's ready. I hope you like it. :)
