Method
1:
If
the video is 20 megs or less in size, email it to me.
If
you have access to a server, or if your video is already on your
web site, simply email the ftp or web information and I will
download the file ASAP. Important: If the video is available on the web
for only a limited time, please include that information in your
email. Most free web hosting companies don't allow video files to be
placed on their servers. You can usually upload the file
without error, but if people start downloading it the hosting
company
will
either delete the file or shut your site down. However, you can
upload the video, send me the URL and I will download it
to my site.
No hosting company will get upset if the video is downloaded once.
Once I have it on my server you can delete the video file.
Most internet service providers give their customers web
space large
enough to hold a music video.
A good free hosting company is Geocities
or you can start a free Yahoo!
newsgroups, which comes with 20 megs of space. However, most
free hosting companies limit the size of your files to just 5 megs
each. If your video is under 5 megs in size, great. If not, I suggest
using a file archiving tool, such as Winace,
to split the video into smaller pieces. I can then download the
pieces and assemble them on my PC.
Method
2: You can mail the video to me. This works well if the video is
on VHS tape and I need to convert it to QuickTime or Windows Media.
If the video
is already in digital format, simply burn it to a CD and mail it
to me. I don't check this post office box everyday, so be sure
to
send me an email notification that you mailed a video.
Here
are the preferred video formats (the less compression the better):
.MPEG
or .MPG - They tend to be very large files, but I can convert .MPEG
files into virtually any format, including Windows Media, QuickTime
and Real Player.
.AVI
(Windows) - Like MPEG, these files tend to be very large, but I
can export them into all major formats.
.WMV
(Windows Media) If you can't send a video in .MPEG or .AVI format,
Windows Media is a good choice. Compatible with Windows and Mac.
Please send the highest quality version you can. Unfortunately,
I can't convert .WMV into any other format, which may prevent some
people from viewing them.
.MOV
(QuickTime) is a good format, particularly if you send a very high
quality version. In addition to the QuickTime original you send,
I can convert your vid into Windows Media and Realplayer, but only
if it is very high quality. Lower quality QT videos are fine if
you have no other, but I can't export them to other formats, limiting
the number of scapers willing to download them.
DivX
is an interesting format, but it's a pain to deal with. I can't
guarantee that a file sent in this format will play on my machine,
and therefore I can't guarantee it will be posted to the site.
