John Crichton
looked over at the form sleeping next to him. He gently pulled the
covers back from the body and laid his head softy against his wife's
beautiful stomach, pressing a kiss on a rounded curve.
"Hello precious.
It's Daddy," he whispered. John ran his hands slowly over the expansion
of his wife's stomach. His hand was greeted with a bulge pushing
out of the skin. John smiled and kissed the spot.
Aeryn Sun slowly
opened her eyes to her husband kissing her rounded belly. She smiled
and ran her hand through his hair.
"Good morning,
Sunshine." John greeted his wife.
"Good morning
to you, too." Aeryn said. John leaned down to kiss her. Aeryn responded
by kissing him back passionately. John bit down lightly down on
her bottom lip.
"Enough. You
don't want to get me worked up. Do you?" he scolded. Aeryn laughed
softly.
"That would
be the least of your problems at the moment." Aeryn said as she
sat on the edge of the bed. John slowly helped his wife get to her
feet. She went to the refresher to take a quick shower. She emerged
a few microts later dressed.
"Jool wanted
us to come down to medical so she can take a scan of you to check
on the baby." John said.
Aeryn groaned
at him. "Frell, I really hate being probed at."
John smiled.
"Just remember one thing, sunshine. We have no idea how long the
gestation period is going to be for you. Remember our child is half
sebacean and half human."
"Don't remind
me. I feel like I have been pregnant for four cycles," she said
sarcastically. John smiled at her amusement and held out his hand
to her.
"If you are
a good girl. I will let you have some extra food cubes," he bribed
her.
"Oh goody!"
she said with a smirk on her face.
********
Aeryn lay on
the examination table as Jool scanned over her body with the medical
equipment. John had been called up to command to take care of a
little problem. Frell you, Rygel! Jool finished scanning and looked
at the control panel to get the readings.
"How much longer
do you think?" Aeryn asked as she sat up.
"Well, since
this is the first Sebacean/Human pregnancy, I have to take the information
that John has provided with human gestation. A Sebacean gestation
is average of six monens, whereas Human gestation is nine monens.
You have had a gestation period of seven monens." Jool said as she
turned toward Aeryn with a smile on her face. "According to my scan,
it looks like that the child has turned in the womb and you are
in the beginning stages of labor."
"Yotz." Aeryn
groaned.
"I figured
this would be good news. Since you said that you are tired of being
pregnant." Jool teased.
"Jool, how's
the patient?" John asked as he entered medical. Aeryn turned to
look at her husband.
"You wife is
in the early stages of labor. The child can come at anytime now."
Jool said
John looked
at his wife. "Well, I guess you won't have to be pregnant much longer."
"Funny, Crichton.
But just remember one thing, I am the one pushing this child out
while you are having a grand ole time." Aeryn said through clenched
teeth.
"And the mood
swings begin again." John said as he remembered back to two monens
ago when Aeryn had returned to Moya. The mood swings were a normal
part of Sebacean pregnancy.
Jool backed
out of the medical slowly, hoping not to get Aeryn's attention because
the last time that Aeryn was in such a mood. Jool almost lost most
of her hair because Aeryn threatened to cut it all off.
John smiled
as his wife as he helped her off the examination table. "Pilot said
that he needed to speak with us in his den," he said as he wrapped
his arm around her waist.
"I think we
should head up there then. I am sure that he has an answer to the
request we asked of him and Moya." Aeryn said as she laid her head
on his shoulder.
"Well, let's
not keep him waiting." John said as he led his wife out of medical.
********
Aeryn sat on
the side of Pilot, resting her aching body. Her labor has started
in full force, but she did not lead anyone on to the knowledge.
John was standing in front of Pilot.
"Pilot, have
you an answer to our request?" John asked as he crossed his arms
over his chest. Pilot looked up from his console.
"Yes, Commander.
Moya and I have agreed on a name for you offspring." Pilot said.
Aeryn smiled as the memory of a similar situation played in her
mind. Moya had wanted Aeryn to name her offspring. She named him
Talyn after her father.
"What have
you two decided?" Aeryn asked as she caressed Pilot's brow.
"Moya and I
have decided on the name Amara for your offspring. Moya and I are
very honored to name your offspring." Pilot said as he looked both
at John and Aeryn. Aeryn slid closer to Pilot, taking on of his
fours arms, putting a hand on her belly.
"John and I
are both even more honored to have a child named after one of Moya's
creators. Amara will be loved by all." Aeryn said looking into Pilot's
eyes. She felt another pain grip her middle. Aeryn tried to ignore
the pain, but it became stronger. John saw the look of alarm on
her face. He went towards her.
"Aeryn, are
you okay?" he asked with a worried expression on his face, putting
a hand on her shoulder.
"No, I think
there is something terribly wrong." She said trying to stand up,
but blackness fell over her. John caught her as she collapsed. John
activated his com.
"Jool, meet
me in medical. There is something wrong with Aeryn. She passed out
cold on me." He said with alertness in his voice.
"I will meet
you down there." Jool's voice cracked over the com.
John picked
up Aeryn in his arms; he felt something sticky on his hands. He
looked down and saw blood on them. " Frell!" he exclaimed as he
ran out of Pilot's den with his unconscious wife in his arms.
********
Aeryn heard
someone calling her name, but she did not want to leave this warm
place. She opened her eyes slowly to see John and Jool standing
over her. Aeryn felt pain rip through her body. She screamed in
agony.
"What the frell
is wrong with me?" she demanded. John put a reassuring hand on his
wife's cheek.
"Jool is doing
another scan. Just remain still." John said. Aeryn looked into her
husband's eyes, knowing that something was terribly wrong. Jool
finished scanning Aeryn's body and turned to exam what had come
up on the screen. John left Aeryn's side and stood next to Jool.
"What is wrong?"
he asked.
Jool sighed
heavily. "The child has damaged her peripheral nerve. Aeryn cannot
regulate blood. She is losing volumes as we speak. We have to deliver
the child to save Aeryn."
John looked
back at his wife who was lying on the examination table, her face
pale. "Then deliver that baby and save my wife." He said with alarm
in his voice. Jool went over to her workstation and grabbed an injection
device.
"This will
help along the birthing process. Aeryn should deliver with in the
arn," she said looking at John.
"Will someone
please tell me what the frell is going on?" Aeryn demanded through
clenched teeth as pain ripped through her body again. John got to
his wife's side, taking her hand in his. "There have been some complications.
The baby has damaged your peripheral nerve. You are losing a lot
of blood. The baby needs to be delivered fast, so Jool can repair
the damage."
"Is the baby
going to be alright?" she asked looking at Jool. Jool came to her
side and injected her with the serum.
"The child
shall be fine. You must rest because you are going to need all the
energy to push the child out from your body. I have injected a serum
into your system to speed up the birthing process." Jool said.
John kissed
his wife's hand. "Rest, baby. I am right here with you."
********
"COME ON, BABY.
JUST ONE MORE PUSH!" John yelled as he held his wife's shoulders
as she struggled to push their child from her weakening body
"Ahhhh..." Aeryn
screamed as she gave a final push, tightening her muscles to bring
her child into the world. The child slipped from her body. Jool
picked up the child and gave it a small whack on its bottom. The
baby let out a healthy cry.
John cried
as he saw his daughter for the first time. He loosened his grip
on Aeryn's shoulder. Her body leaned against his for support. Jool
placed the baby in Aeryn's awaiting arms. She looked down at the
child that she and John created, tears coming to her eyes. John
wrapped his arms around both his wife and child.
"Amara
Erin Sun-Crichton." Aeryn whispered as she brought her lips
to her daughter's brow, kissing her softly. John looked in wonder
at the small life that his wife held in her arms. He brought his
finger to his child's hand and Amara wrapped her hand around it.
Pray God
you can cope. I stand outside this woman's work,
This woman's world.
Ooh, it's hard on the man,
Now his part is over.
Now starts the craft of the father.
"Welcome
to the world, Precious. Mommy and Daddy are here for you. We love
you so very much." He said quietly to his daughter. John looked
at his wife with a smile on his face. "I love you and thank
you for giving me a daughter."
Aeryn smiled
weakly back at him. "Your welcome and I love you, too." Jool came
over to the couple.
"Chiana is
going to take the child and clean her up." Jool said as she held
out her arms for the baby to be placed into them. Aeryn reluctantly
placed the baby in Jool's arms. She had a worried expression on
her face. Jool smiled softly, "I will bring her right back to you
after she is done. I promise."
Jool left medical
with the child in her arms. John laid his wife down on the examination
table, caressing her pale cheek. "Who would have guessed that fate
had this in store for us?" he said as he smiled. Aeryn smiled weakly
at him. She closed her eyes as she felt the more blood drain from
her body.
"John..." she
whispered as she touched his cheek. "Jool is not going to be able
to repair the damage. I am going to die."
I know
you have a little life in you yet.
I know you have a lot of strength left.
I know you have a little life in you yet.
I know you have a lot of strength left.
John shook
his head in denial. "No, she can repair it! You will live."
Aeryn shook
her head. "John, you and I both know there is only one way for it
to be repaired. We don't have that option." Tears began to slide
down her cheeks.
"You are not
going to die. You are not going to leave me again." John said as
tears ran down his cheeks. Aeryn looked up at her husband.
"I love you
and nothing will ever change that. I don't want to die here. Take
me to the terrace. I want to hold my daughter in my arms before
I die." Aeryn said through her tears. John was reluctant at first,
but hecomplied with his wife's wishes. He gathered her in his arms.
Jool was walking back into medical with Amara in her arms.
"Where are
you going with her?" Jool demanded.
"Give Aeryn,
Amara." John said quickly.
Jool placed
the baby in Aeryn's arms. "What the frell is going on?" John hurried
out of medical with his wife and child in his arms.
********
Aeryn slowly
felt as John sat down on the cushion on the terrace, his strong
arms embracing her dying body. Aeryn tightened her arms around Amara.
John was crying hard.
I should
be crying, but I just can't let it show.
I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking.
Of all the things I should've said,
That I never said.
All the things we should've done,
That we never did.
All the things I should've given,
But I didn't.
"I don't want
your life to end like this. You still have so much time a head of
you." John whispered into her ear. Aeryn pulled her face away from
his shoulder, her blue eyes full of tears.
"I don't regret
one microt of my life that I have spent with you. You have made
me the happiest person," she said as she looked down at her sleeping
daughter in her arms. "You have given me so much more. John, you
taught me how to love and to be loved. I brought our daughter into
this world out of love."
"Aeryn, you
have made me the happiest man in this universe. I love you with
all my heart and soul. You have given me your love and our precious
daughter. Thank you for all of that." John said as he tightened
his arms around his wife and daughter. Aeryn slowly felt a force
pulling her soul away from her body. No please! Not yet. I just
need more time. Aeryn brought her lips to John's and kissed
him. John pulled back a little to look into her blue eyes. "I love
you, John Crichton. Take care of our little girl." Aeryn's eyes
closed and her breathing stopped.
"AERYN!! NO!!"
John shouted. "Come on baby. Don't leave me. Don't leave me..." John
cried as he began to rock back and forth with his wife and daughter
in his arms.
Give me these
moments back.
Give them back to me.
Give me that little kiss.
Give me your hand.
Amara started
to cry. John laid his wife's body on the cushion beside him. He
took his daughter into his arms. John rocked back and forth. "Shhh...precious.
Daddy's here. Daddy's never going to leave you." John walked farther
out onto the terrace, looking down at his daughter. Amara had the
same blue eyes as Aeryn. Amara wrapped her tiny hand around his
finger. He sighed and looked out into space. A star twinkled brightly
in the distance.
Oh, darling,
make it go away.
Just make it go away now.
